“Ms. Daniels walks young people through all the elements of art, a book for anyone starting their art adventure!” - Ashley McKee @ashcanworks
How does an artist make art?
This is a question my students have asked me over the years. As I pondered an age-appropriate response to such a big question, I decided to start building the foundations for this book about the elements of art.
The Elements of Art is a children’s book in which I introduce the seven elements of art. These elements are line, shape, form, texture, value, space, and color; they are the foundation for creating any work of art. State and national art standards require K-12 students to identify and understand these elements. After searching for relevant resources, I realized there were no children's books about these elements. I decided to change that!
As the narrator in this story, I introduce the elements with accessible definitions, and with quirky, contemporary illustrations. Readers will be engaged to ask questions and reflect on their own use of the elements in their art. The book concludes with beginner, intermediate, and advanced-level art projects for future exploration.
